Breaking News #1-Preview

Samantha Yates, a student at Western Michigan University, has an exciting and exhilarating routine every Friday. Yates loves the cafeteria and enjoys lunch at the Valley Dining Center after her morning classes every Friday.

“They have great food and lots of variety,” said Yates. “My favorite is the stir-fry.”

After lunch, Yates does chores like cleaning her room and walking to the Bernhard Center to print her weekly essay.

When all her chores are done Yates watches Netflix and decides what to order for dinner.

Yates is currently watching the series Riverdale and is really enjoying it.

“I get really excited for my Friday Riverdale watching,” Yates said. “I don’t let myself watch it during the school week because it is too distracting.”

Yates orders something different every Friday but said she is feeling Mexican this week.  


“I like to treat myself to a food delivery every Friday to reward myself for the hard school week,” Yates said.

Bikes Bikes and mopeds are two very common methods of transportation at Michigan State University, but how do they differ? Convenience, parking, and safety are three big considerations that MSU students contemplate when deciding what method of transportation is best for them. Hope Adams, a sophomore and biomedical laboratory science major at MSU, said rides her bike to class to get there faster when she has classes close together. When it comes to parking at the bike racks, Adams said she could always find a place for her bike, but sometimes she had to squeeze it somewhere. “Sometime when I would ride my bike I would have to be really careful, like stopping at intersections and making sure other bikers and cars can see me because I was almost hit by a car one time and that was super scary,” Adams said when talking about bike safety .

MM3 Side 2: Mopeds

Mopeds  Mopeds are very common on Michigan State University’s campus and many students use them as a way to get to class.                  As with bikes, convenience, parking, and safety are considered by MSU students when they are deciding whether or not a moped is right for them. Caroline Dimas, a junior and education major at MSU, has had a moped on campus for three years and said one of the major benefits of having a moped on campus is it saves her a lot of time going to work and class. Since bikes and mopeds park at the bike racks at MSU, Dimas said, “it is definitely hard to find parking with the bikes and the mopeds; I feel like this year there are definitely a lot more mopeds, so it’s really hard to find parking.” Dimas said she feels safe riding her moped on-campus because there are lots of people watching out, but she does feel a little unsafe when riding her moped off-campus.

MM #2 Side 2: Recycling

Off-campus and on-campus students know varying amounts of information about recycling. Kevin Murray, a junior and education major at MSU, lives in a house off-campus and does recycle. “Our recycling bin is just in our backyard usually. We take it to the front yard when we want to recycle so it’s really easy,” Murray said. Murray compared his off-campus experience recycling with his on-campus experience and said it is less work to recycle off-campus compared to the dorms because his recycling bin is in his backyard now while he had to walk all the way down the hall in the dorms. Murray went on to say he thinks recycling is important, but he does not know the full impact not recycling has on the environment.
